Letter #33 Not just a man's best friend!

Dear Addie,
I know you can't read or understand people talk, but I still want to say thank you. You have been my best friend for 12 years so far. You were always there for me. I remember the first day I saw you. You were on the vet floor with all your brothers and sisters only 8 weeks old. Someone had dumped you and your siblings at Fred Meyer's in a box. You were too young to be without a mother. The vet had to help nurse you all back to health puppies.
The previous 3 months I had worked so hard to earn my Puppy Points. Mom and Dad told me that if I earned 500 puppy points I could have a dog. I earned them by walking the neighbor's dog, Data, doing chores, and other good deeds. I could have had all the Puppy Points in a month if there wasn't the stipulation that when ever I said, "No" to my parents, they would take away puppy points.
Only now that I am married and moved out I can be truly honest and say that when my mom wasn't looking I would replace the Puppy Points that were taken away.
Out of all your brothers and sisters I knew I liked you best. You kept making eye contact with me and turning your head slightly to the side. I fell in love.
You have been the best dog anyone could ever ask for. You were never much of a barker (only when sirens were near). You never chewed on the furniture, licked people's faces or jumped on anyone. You are perfect in my eyes.
Once, when you were still a puppy, you turned from cute puppy to girls best friend. After a fight with my mom, I went and hid underneath the stairs hoping no one would find me. Within 5 minutes you were whining at the door. I let you in and you sat very still next to me. Comforting me. Thank you.
I miss not being with you everyday. I wish that I could afford an apartment that allowed pets. Thank you for being a light in my life and making me smile everyday. I love you my puppy and I always will! Thank you for being a loyal companion.

Dear Suzanne Collins,
I just devoured your series of The Hunger Games. I am part of a book club and this month's book was the first in your series, The Hunger Games. I was hesitant to read and had put off both my mom and Calin's suggestion to read it. All I heard about your book is that it is violent. After much peer pressure, I started to read. I would read until 2 in the morning. Huddling close to my book with a dim book light trying not to wake Calin, I couldn't put it down! Thank you for a beautiful imagination. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world.
The day after I finished the first book I started the second, Catching Fire. I read that one in 24 hours...again staying up until 2am. The third went by just as quickly. I loved all three and will definitely read them all over again. Thank you. Thank you for allowing me to escape into a different world only to be brought back and appreciate the one I really live in. And to all those who have not read these books, READ THEM!!!
