Letter #4 "He didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it." ~Clarence Budington Kelland

Dear Dad,

I love you. Thank you for teaching me the important things in life. Thank you for helping me make wise decisions. I remember when I first moved out of the house in 2007, I didn’t realize how much I’d miss you. That’s why I came to your office almost every day. It wasn’t because I was already on campus or I needed a place to crash…I missed you. I think that is when we started becoming best friends. Growing up and during high school you were my dad-- the guy that stayed awake until I was home safe. Now you are much more. Thank you for your unconditional love. Thank you for still loving me when I would lie about doing my chores. Thank you for still loving me when I had my first boyfriend at 14. Thank you for still loving me when I got a tattoo. I know I can always rely on you.

Thank you for helping me do my taxes every year. This year is going to suck J Thank you for knowing all the answers to my computer and technological questions. I know it’s been a few months since we’ve done this but, I love singing and playing guitar with you. I love that we have something that we can share together. Thank you for the gift of your music. I remember while I was living in China you sent me a link to some of your songs you were working on. 10 seconds into 1234 I started to cry. I made Tammi and Erin listen to all your songs a million and one times. I have the coolest dad ever! Thank you for always supporting me. Thank you for your lame “dad jokes”. They always make me laugh whether I want to or not. Thank you for taking us on hiking, camping, driving, etc. adventures. We had some good ones!

Thank you for working so hard for our family. I think it’s safe to say that you work TOO hard J Thank you for taking chances and never giving up. Thank you for raising me in the Church. Thank you for having family scripture time and family prayer. Thank you for loving mom so much. I hope that Calin and I can be just as great as you too were as parents and people in general. I love you so much and I always will.

  1. Meg, you are filled with surprises. Your whole life you have continued to amaze me. You've proven time and time again that you can do anything you set your mind to. Thank you for your kind words, this letter means a lot your dear old dad. I've never been too sure how effective I've been as a dad. But, with your encouragement, I'll keep trying to be deserving of your love and kindness. I think we still have lots of adventures ahead of us. The adventures will only get more and more interesting as we go along. Thanks for choosing such a great guy to share your life with, Calin is a wonderful addition to our family. You guys have incredible adventures of your own ahead of you. This blog is a very cool idea, you have a wonderful way of writing, and I will keep reading it all year! Love, Dad
